Cate Luzio
Cate Luzio is the Founder and CEO of Luminary, a gender-inclusive global B2B and B2C professional education and networking platform driving impact for individuals and enterprise organizations through its engaged community and robust suite of tools, resources, and services designed to support all phases of a person's professional and personal journey.
In March 2018, Cate left her two-decade banking career to self-fund Luminary, founded with the mission to provide pathways for people to thrive and define success on their own terms—where everyone has a seat at the table, no application required. She has grown Luminary into a powerful movement and dynamic multimillion-dollar generating physical and digital ecosystem with more than 15,000 Individual Members and over 100 Enterprise Members. Strategic acquisitions including The Cru (2023) and Hey Mama (2025) continue to significantly strengthen Luminary's reach, expand its portfolio and product offerings, and solidify its position as an industry pioneer.
Before starting Luminary, Cate spent close to twenty years in financial services leading global billion-dollar businesses. Previously, she was Global Head of Multinational Corporate Banking for HSBC and prior to that, served as Head of Multinational Corporate Banking at J.P. Morgan EMEA based in London. She started her career in tech focused on China and following that entered finance in Latin America, primarily with Bank of America, across both consumer and wholesale banking. Her corporate career achievements earned her recognition as American Banker's Most Powerful Women in Banking multiple years in a row, a three-time Financial Times Global Diversity Champion, and three-time Yahoo Finance Diversity Hero.
As a leader of several women's networks throughout her time in banking, Cate observed the significant underrepresentation of women and women of color in the senior ranks and leadership pipeline. She recognized the problem was a lack of talent itself—particularly in the "Power Middle"— and created Luminary to address this disparity.
Today, Cate remains committed to leveraging her extensive corporate experience to empower and advance women and allies in their personal and professional development. She is also instrumental in helping businesses and organizations build ecosystems that support talent development and retention, foster engaged workplaces, and elevate social impact initiatives.
Her voice is amplified as a trusted media resource for leading financial, business, and lifestyle media, and keynote speaker for organizations such as Verizon, Hudson Bay Corporation, JPMorgan Chase, Fidelity, BlackRock, ADP, UBS, and more. She has also been featured as a speaker, panelist, and moderator at high-profile events including SXSW, Inc. Founders House, Inc. 5000, Conferences for Women, ADP Women’s Summit, Verizon 100 Women Leaders, Fidelity Women Talk Money, Yelp Women in Business and Black in Business Summits, ACG Women’s Conference, Women and Worth, and WBC Women’s Capital Summit. Numerous industry accolades include her appointment to Inc. Magazine's Female Founders Board of Advisors (2024, 2025); Inc. Top 100 Female Founder (2019, 2021); Know Women's 100 Women to Know; Worth Magazine's Worthy 100; WPO’s Women to Watch and Forbes’ Next 1000 Entrepreneurs.
A long-time advocate for empowering women and girls, Cate serves on the Board of Girls Inc. New York City since 2022, having been served on the National Board for the organization from 2016-2022.. She mentors for WE.NYC, The Tory Burch Foundation, and The NORTH, and is a member of The DealmakeHers, Women’s Forum of NY, WPO, WBC, and KNOW Women. Additionally, she is an active investor and advisor to several women-founded companies.
Cate is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, where she was named its Entrepreneur of the Year in 2021 and joined its Board of Governors that same year. She also holds a master’s degree in international relations from Georgetown University.
